In the LED industry, we saw that the MOCVD LED systems company, Veeco
is again bullish about its prospects in Asia. Japan appears to be accelerating its LED consumption. Because of blackouts and reduced energy supply since the nuclear disaster began, Japan is moving faster towards solid-state lighting to save energy.
But China is still the main reason for Veeco’s bullishness. The different regions in China are deciding their LED lighting policies independently of one another. So while some regions are cutting lighting subsidies as rumored, others are not.
In addition, Veeco has had new customers ordering their products who do not receive any regional government subsidies at all and suspects these customers may be receiving zero-interest loans instead.
