Polysilicon and Wafer Costs Expected to Drop to Record $0.20 per Watt in 2014

PV polysilicon and wafer costs will drop to record low below $0.2/Watt in 2014.  According to NPD Solarbuzz, average manufacturing costs for tier one integrated polysilicon and PV wafer makers will fall below the record low of $0.20/W in 2014.

While this is less than the average 16% decrease they have seen annually since 2008, the industry still has scope to drive costs down further. Solarbuzz attributed the decline to  manufacturers relocating their polysilicon operations to areas with low electricity costs, replacing manufacturing capacity using the so-called Siemens manufacturing process with fluidised bed reactor (FBR) plants and a generally competitive market. At Accessible Clean Energy we expect new financing instruments will also push down solar project development costs in future.
