BP Plc released its yearly Statistical Review of World Energy on Wednesday. Used for decades as an industry benchmark, this year’s edition laid bare the seismic shifts taking place in global energy markets.
According to BP, one of the three seismic shifts is in renewable energy which BP now says is a force to be reckoned with. Solar power generation alone enjoyed another year of very rapid growth in 2014, with a 38% increase. Its overall share of global power generation has doubled in just two years. Solar is starting to have a noticeable impact in terms of sources of power generation growth, contributing nearly 15% of the growth of global power in 2014.
