A Functional and Portable Origami Solar Panel

Shannon Zirbel,  a mechanical engineer at Brigham Young University is working with Nasa’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, to create an elegant origami solar array that can be tightly compacted for launch and then deployed in space to generate power for space stations or satellites.

Meanwhile over in Germany, another woman Eva Hotz, a product design engineer, has produced an equally elegant origami like solar panel for everyday use.  It folds easily and and can be instantly deployed to charge items through the USB port on the side.  In this case the origami like structure guarantees that solar radiance can be harvested from any direction.
